Marketing and Communications Assistant job description

Team: Student Life Marketing and Graphics
Reports to: Assistant Dean of Students for Student Life Marketing

Purpose of the position

The Marketing and Communications Assistant position is responsible for producing communications for the Dean of Students Office unit. Responsibilities include social media management for all unit accounts; bi-weekly e-newsletters and other email communications sent to students, faculty and staff; and distribution of marketing materials.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Social media
    • Updating and scheduling posts to the main social media accounts with provided content
    • Assisting the social media team in creating original content
    • Creating new content on the fly
    • Attending events and report on highlights
    • Planning student-oriented campaigns and contests to increase engagement on specified platforms
  • Electronic communications
    • Update events, promotions and other content used to create the Get Involved newsletter
    • Draft and send HTML email communications 
  • Materials distribution
    • Distribute flyers, table tents and other materials for the unit
    • Distribute flyers for student organizations and campus units to official bulletin boards on campus
  • Other duties as assigned
    • Student may be asked to assist with production work in Graphics during busy times

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a Wayne State student
  • Must have one or more years remaining before graduating  
  • Majoring in public relations or journalism or related field is ideal, but not a requirement
  • Must be available to work Wednesdays and Fridays, 15-20 hours.
