DOSO Student Assistant job description

Reports to: Warrior Life Coordinator

General purpose

Support the Dean of Students Office by managing front desk operations, assisting students, faculty, and staff, and maintaining a welcoming and organized office environment. This role also includes overseeing the Makerspace, ensuring safety and positive interactions of guests and cleanliness of the space. This position requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Specific duties

  • Greet and assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors both in person and over the phone in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Answer phone calls, take messages, and transfer calls to the appropriate staff members or departments.
  • Provide information and assistance to students regarding office services, campus resources, and university policies and procedures.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and deliveries.
  • Distribute packages to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) upon delivery.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Dean of Students Office front desk area and lobby.
  • Assist with special projects and events as assigned by the Warrior Life Coordinator.
  • Handle ticket sales and the distribution of blue books and scantrons.
  • Oversee the pick-up process for the Warrior Rewards program.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with university policies.
  • Keep the Makerspace clean and organized, regularly performing inventory of available materials.
  • Assist students in the button-making process
  • Participate in monthly staff trainings. 

Specific expectations

  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student with availability to work a minimum of eight hours per week. 
  • Arrive to shifts on time in appropriate attire. 
  • Maintain open communication with the Warrior Life Coordinator regarding work-related issues. 
  • Make necessary arrangements to attend all mandatory training sessions. 
  • Serve as a positive role model for other students by complying with and supporting University policies and procedures. 
  • Act as a role model of inclusion by providing equitable treatment and customer service to all guests. 
  • Possess strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Seek answers to questions that are not known through research materials or by asking professional staff members. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Teams Shifts, Outlook).
