Responsibilities
- Lead the hard-working, passionate, and caring team of professional staff and student staff in Student Center and Campus Reservations.
- Work with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community to plan and execute events throughout campus.
- Provide a safe and welcoming environment in the campus buildings we manage, including the Student Center, STEM Innovation Learning Center and M. Roy Wilson State Hall.
- Collaborate with colleagues across campus on larger initiatives working towards student success.
Biography
As an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University, Katie fell in love with the mission of a student center on a college campus. Katie completed her bachelor's degree in Sociology and her master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs at Ohio State, where she was part of the team that opened the brand new Ohio Union in 2010. After completing her master's, Katie worked in student activities and event services while at Ohio State.
She completed her Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Leadership from Texas Christian University. Her dissertation was focused on sense of belonging and acculturation for student leaders of color. Her research interests include student employment, sense of belonging, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Katie is originally from Avon Lake, Ohio, which is outside of Cleveland. She and her husband are the proud parents of their 5-year-old daughter, Olivia, who loves visiting Wayne State any chance she gets!
