The W Food Pantry
703 W Kirby
The W Food Pantry provides currently enrolled Wayne State Warriors in need of food assistance with supplemental food and additional resources to enhance student success.
The W is excited to be a member of Gleaners Food Bank.
- Provide students in need with access to nutritious food at no cost
- Reduce food insecurities among students across WSU campus
- Increase awareness of what it means to be food insecure, while reducing stigma surrounding food pantries and food insecurities
- Provide students to additional resources (throughout Wayne State and the greater community)
- Enhance student success
In order to be eligible to receive items from The W, all students must be currently enrolled at Wayne State University and are required to provide their Access ID during intake. Eligible students can receive food twice a month.
Students can access The W a third time during the month if an emergency occurs by contacting Rainesha Williams-Fox at email@example.com.
The most important role each of us can play is to direct students in need to The W. Below is the first time user registration form. This information is kept confidential and no financial questions are asked and the only requirement is enrollment at Wayne State. Please complete the form if you are in need and/or send it to someone you know who could benefit from the W.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services – Conner Service Center has committed two case workers that will help currently registered WSU students navigate how to apply for state benefits such as food subsidies (SNAP benefits), rental, cash, childcare and utility assistance. They are located in the Welcome Center, room 252 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
Are you interested in helping out at The W? We're looking for volunteers to help in a variety of ways. Volunteers play a key role in The W's success. Sign up here if you are interested in volunteering.
Food for Fines
From April 17 through May 1, the Libraries will be offering users a chance to have their fines removed and support a great new initiative on campus through the Food for Fines program. For every non-perishable food or toiletry item donated to the Libraries, $1 will be waived from your outstanding fines and your item will be donated to The W.
To participate, bring your items to the service desk at either the Purdy/Kresge or Undergraduate Libraries. Items must be new, unexpired and unopened, with the label intact. Items must also be free from dirt, rust or dents.
Make a monetary donation
If you are interested in making a monetary donation, please click here. Choose "Other" from the dropdown menu and type "The W Food Pantry" in the notes. Just a $10 donation can purchase $100 worth of food from Gleaners Food Bank.
